Quarantine season is still in the air. And here at Kusinang Bicolana, we understand the struggle of thinking new ways on how to make your canned goods taste extra special. And to note that it is not just when you are left with no choice, but this is really an exciting recipe every home cook should try. Easy and affordable, for sure you will always have a meal that’s palatable. Let’s go green with sardines!
Background
For a long time before, fishes have been so abundant in the seas and oceans. And since seafood cannot be kept for a long time if not preserved, it goes to waste. To avoid that, thanks to our ancestors who have discovered the process of canning goods so they can be eaten for the coming months or years. And now, we enjoy canned goods for season and out of season, for tight-budget days to no-time-to-cook days.
Tortang sardinas is just one of the many recipes we can make out of sardines. The combination of readily available canned goods and the accessible spices and vegetables are a perfect match to make some Tortang Sardinas.
How will the smell of the sardines affect the recipe?
We cannot deny that canned sardines have some fishy smell due to preservation. However, it is a good factor that we separate its sauce. Now, the stench is not too much. Since we mix the sardines with the other spices and veggies, the odor is minimized. Don’t worry much about it, when you have it cooked, you’ll enjoy the food and not mind of the odor. Or enjoy its smell, too!
What sauce is best paired with Tortang Sardinas?
While included in the cooking instruction is a good sauce, you can always have some other dipping sauce to choose from. We recommend trying catsup, chili sauce or the like. It becomes tastier when it is paired with either of the mentioned sauce. You are free to make one if nothing is available in your kitchen.
