Originated in the Philippines, this chicken stew is another Filipino classic that is being served and eaten by many Filipino families up to the present. This dish is served as an appetizer or main entrée with rice, which can compensate as one full meal. 

Tinolang manok is a low-cost dish but is still a common dish served in Filipino restaurants. This is a perfect way to serve your family and guests with a well-balanced meal with enough protein, which is also rich in vegetable nutrients. 

What is the difference between Chicken Tinola and Chicken Binakol?

These are the two classic chicken Filipino dishes. They look the same but are cooked differently. Tinola makes use of the ordinary way of cooking chicken Filipino stew with sautéed ingredients and spices, Binakol on the other hand, is cooked with coconut water and is sometimes even served while inside a coconut. 

What are the health benefits of eating Spinach?

Might be wondering why add this ingredient. Here’s why: spinach is good for the eyes, plus it is also rich in Vitamins A, C, and K. It is a good source of iron and is a good recommendation in burning belly fat. Most people do not like spinach, but it is advisable to include the vegetable in the daily diet.

  • Use native chicken, the younger ones. This type of chicken contributes a pungent flavor when cooking tinola and is also a famous inclusion when cooking this classic dish. 
  • To add a bit of flavor in the cooked tinola, serve it hot with a separate fish sauce with chili.

  • Chicken cut in pieces
  • Crushed garlic
  • Chopped onion
  • Crushed ginger
  • Tomatoes
  • Green chili
  • Bay leaf
  • Fish sauce

  1. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Sauté garlic, onion, and ginger until cook and fragrant.
  3. Add the chicken, bay leaf, crushed pepper, and fish sauce.
  4. Cover the pot & simmer for about 10 minutes on medium flame.
  5. Pour hot water over the mixture and add the potatoes.
  6. Cover the pot and cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Add the chili & spinach.
  8. Serve hot.
