Background

Ginisang Gulay, or in more familiar terms, sautéed or stir-fried vegetables, were originated from one of the cooking methods of China. It has spread over the years to certain parts of Asia, and eventually ended up influencing the culture of the Philippines.

There are many recipes in the Asian cuisine which are stir-fried with rice, fish, noodles and many more. The main components of this technique is protein, aromatics and vegetables.

Is sautéed vegetable healthy?

Yes, compared to usual methods in cooking pure vegetables, sautéed is much healthier. Nutrients of the vegetables can easily be strained when blanched or boiled.

Do you pre-cook the vegetables?

In this recipe, one pan cooking will do. Just make sure that the chicken, carrots and greens are cooked well before adding other ingredients from the recipe.

Cooking Tips

  • It is recommended to make use of a non-stick pan.
  • Carefully wash ingredients and make sure the ingredients are fresh.
  • When cooking the vegetables, put first the hard vegetables, such as carrots, since it takes a while to be cooked. The green vegetables should be cooked after to avoid overcooking them.
  • Use olive oil or butter as an alternative to your regular cooking oil to make it healthier. It even tastes better too!

  1. Oil
  2. 5 cloves of garlic (crushed)
  3. 1 medium onion (sliced)
  4. Bay leaf
  5. Tomato (sliced)
  6. ½ teaspoon Crushed Pepper
  7. 500 g chicken breast (cut into cubes)
  8. ½ cup soy sauce
  9. 1 pc. Carrots (sliced)
  10. 200 grams green beans
  11. 1 cup of water
  1. Prep ingredients needed to be sliced and minced.
  2. Cut into cubes 500 grams of chicken breast.
  3. Heat oil in a pan.
  4. Sauté 5 cloves of garlic.
  5. Add 1 sliced medium-sized onion.
  6. Add bay leaf and sliced tomatoes.
  7. Add ½ tsp. of crushed pepper.
  8. Put into pan the sliced chicken meat cubes.
  9. Add ½ cup of soy sauce.
  10. Continue stirring over medium flame.
  11. When the chicken is cooked, add the vegetables.
  12. Add one sliced carrot and 200 grams of green beans.
  13. Add one cup of water.
  14. Continue stirring until vegetables are cooked.
  15. Serve and enjoy!
